ABEOKUTA – In a world that often feels hurried and indifferent, the Hands of Solace Foundation recently proved that a single act of kindness can rewrite a person’s entire story. Our team visited the Oba Ademola Maternity Hospital in Abeokuta, turning what began as a routine outreach into a life-changing mission for several families.
The atmosphere at the maternity ward was a mixture of joy and exhaustion, the air filled with the cries of newborns and the quiet relief of new mothers. However, beneath the surface of these new beginnings, many families were grappling with the harsh reality of post-natal expenses.
The primary goal of the visit was to provide immediate relief to new parents. The House of Solace team moved through the wards, distributing essential supplies including:
While the smiles of the parents were rewarding, it was the stories hidden behind the hospital curtains that truly moved our hearts.
During the distribution, our team was introduced to a young mother whose story of joy had been overshadowed by a cruel betrayal. After the birth of her child, her husband—overwhelmed by the mounting financial pressure—fled the hospital and disappeared, leaving her alone to face the weight of medical bills and the uncertainty of the future.
Stranded and unable to discharge herself or her newborn, the woman was in a state of despair. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the Hands of Solace Foundation immediately intervened.
”We believe that no mother should have to choose between the joy of her child and the burden of debt,” said a representative of the Foundation. “To see a woman abandoned at her most vulnerable moment is a call to action we could not ignore.”
The Foundation took full responsibility for her outstanding hospital bills and provided a comprehensive suite of post-natal care materials to ensure she and her baby could return home with dignity and security.
The intervention didn’t stop there. The team encountered another woman facing a similar financial crisis, unable to secure the necessary items for her baby’s transition from the hospital to the home. By stepping in to provide both financial aid and physical supplies, Hands of Solace ensured that these mothers didn’t just receive “items,” but regained their peace of mind.
These encounters serve as a sobering reminder of why our work exists. The “Solace” in our name isn’t just a word; it is a promise to stand in the gap when the world turns its back.
LAGOS – They say that education is the passport to the future, but for many bright students, the “cost of travel” can be a heavy burden to carry. This week, the Hands of Solace Foundation took a trip to Destvine International School in the heart of Lagos, ensuring that for several students, that passport was stamped “Paid in Full.”
It wasn’t just a visit; it was a celebration of potential and a reminder that when a community leans in, every child can soar.
The highlight of the mission was an intervention that went straight to the heart of the students’ academic journey. The Hands of Solace team was privileged to cover the tuition fees for several students whose families were facing financial hurdles.
In an era where economic pressures often force hard choices between essentials and education, this intervention removed a massive weight from the shoulders of parents and let the children focus on what truly matters: learning.
Beyond the financial support, we wanted to make sure the students felt “the part” of a scholar. Our team arrived with a colorful array of supplies designed to turn every classroom session into an adventure:
As the bags were handed out, the atmosphere in the school shifted from routine to “Christmas in March.” The sight of students proudly strapping on their new gear was a testament to how much a little encouragement can boost a child’s confidence.
If you ever doubted the impact of a single act of kindness, you only had to look at the faces of the beneficiaries. The joy of the students truly knew no bounds, with many expressing their appreciation through bright smiles and high-fives with our team.
However, the most moving moment of the day came from the parents. One mother, overwhelmed by the news that her child’s fees had been settled, could not hold back her emotions. In a touching display of gratitude, she showered the Hands of Solace team with heartfelt prayers and appreciation, noting that this intervention was a literal answer to her silent pleas.
“To see a parent find peace and a child find their smile—that is the ultimate ‘solace’ we strive to provide,” said a member of the Hands of Solace team.
At Hands of Solace, we believe that every pen provided and every fee paid is an investment in a better Nigeria. Our visit to Destvine International School is just one chapter in our ongoing story of empowerment.
We want to say a massive “Thank You” to our supporters who make these moments possible. You aren’t just donating; you are building the architects, doctors, and leaders of tomorrow.
EWEKORO – In the quiet corridors of the Kere Community within the Ewekoro Local Government Area, a silent struggle has been unfolding for years. It is a struggle marked by empty cupboards and the weary eyes of women who have lost their life partners. Recently, however, the silence was broken by the arrival of the Hands of Solace Foundation, bringing with them a message of remembrance and a massive wave of nutritional relief.
True impact begins with understanding, not just giving. Before the first bag of food was ever distributed, the Hands of Solace team embarked on an intensive community engagement mission. We believe that to serve a people, you must first sit with them.
Our team sought an audience with the Baale (the traditional head) of Kere Community. In an emotional and insightful chat, the Baale opened up about the stark realities facing his people. He didn’t sugarcoat the situation: many inhabitants of the community are grappling with severe hunger, with the elderly and widows being the hardest hit.
”There are so many here who go to bed not knowing where the next meal will come from,” the Baale shared. “Our widows, especially, have been carrying a burden too heavy for them to bear alone.”
Moved by the Baale’s testimony and the visible need within the community, Hands of Solace took immediate action. Our mission was clear: to ensure that the “forgotten” women of Kere felt seen, valued, and fed.
In a massive outreach effort, the Foundation successfully provided essential raw foodstuffs to approximately 120 widows. Understanding that nutrition requires more than just a single grain, we curated “Provision Packs” designed to sustain a household and allow these women to cook dignified, flavorful meals in their own homes.
The atmosphere at the Kere Community was electric with gratitude. For many of these women, the arrival of Hands of Solace represented more than just a bag of rice; it was an answer to a prayer. As they queued to receive their supplies, the stories shared were ones of resilience and newfound hope.
”We didn’t just come to drop off bags; we came to hold hands,” said a spokesperson for the Foundation. “By engaging with the Baale and the residents directly, we ensured that our intervention reached the people who needed it most. Seeing 120 widows leave with their heads held high and their bags full is exactly why Hands of Solace exists.”
The Kere Community outreach serves as a poignant reminder that hunger is a giant that can only be defeated through collective action and genuine empathy. Through this intervention, Hands of Solace has reaffirmed its commitment to the vulnerable, proving that no community is too remote and no person is too “small” to be cared for.
As we look back on the smiles in Ewekoro, we are reminded that our work is far from over.
ILARO, OGUN STATE – In a decisive move to bridge the educational gap in underserved communities, the Hands of Solace Foundation has officially pledged a strategic partnership with the Ogun State Government. The initiative aims to transform the landscape of primary education, ensuring that children in the state’s most remote areas are not left behind due to economic hardship.
The announcement followed a high-impact outreach in Oke Erinja, Yewa South Local Government Area, where the Foundation distributed essential school materials to over 400 primary school pupils. For many of these children, the gesture was more than just a donation—it was a lifeline for their academic future.
Speaking during a consultative visit to the Yewa South Local Government Education Authority in Ilaro, the Foundation’s Spokesman, Mr. Segun Adekoya, emphasized that the organization is deeply committed to the foundational stages of learning.
Mr. Adekoya revealed a bold, long-term vision: the Foundation is currently in the process of acquiring acres of land in Oke Erinja. The goal? To construct a modern, standard primary school where children from low-income families can access high-quality education entirely free of charge.
“We are a group of young Nigerian professionals from various fields who have come together with a singular purpose: to give back to society from the fruits of our hard work,” Adekoya stated. “Our research showed that parental commitment to education in this area needed a catalyst. We are here to provide that spark.”
The need for such intervention was underscored by Mrs. Ogunleye Adedoyin, Head of Department for Academic and School Services at the Yewa South LG Education Authority. Receiving the delegation, she painted a somber picture of the challenges facing rural pupils.
While acknowledging the Ogun State Government’s ongoing efforts in infrastructure, she noted that the “last mile” of support often falls on philanthropists.
“The intervention by Hands of Solace is not just timely; it is essential,” Mrs. Adedoyin remarked. “We need more well-meaning Nigerians to complement the government’s efforts in these remote communities.”
The impact of the Foundation’s visit was felt immediately across the school compounds. Mrs. Popoola M.A., Head Teacher of YSLG Primary School, described the distribution as a major motivational boost for both the students and their parents. Teachers and pupils alike expressed their profound gratitude, urging the Foundation to maintain its presence in the region. The Hands of Solace Foundation has already hinted at several upcoming projects designed to further enhance the educational standards and facilities in Yewa South.
The dream of providing free, quality education to every child in Ogun State is a massive undertaking that requires collective action. Hands of Solace Foundation invites corporate organizations, influential individuals, and kind-hearted Nigerians to partner with them in making this vision a reality.
KERE COMMUNITY – In a move that blends environmental stewardship with grassroots entrepreneurship, the Hands of Solace Foundation has partnered with the renowned Solar Sister Organization to ignite a clean energy movement in Kere Community. By empowering local women to become “clean energy entrepreneurs,” the partnership is effectively challenging the age-old reliance on hazardous lighting and cooking methods.
The initiative has not only introduced modern technology to the community but has also provided a sustainable path to financial independence for three pioneering women.
The collaboration was born out of a shared vision: to replace the “darkness” of pollution with the “light” of sustainable technology. Recognizing that women are the primary energy managers in many rural households, Hands of Solace and Solar Sister focused their efforts on equipping three community women with the tools, training, and capital needed to launch their own clean energy ventures.
To ensure these businesses had a solid foundation, the Hands of Solace Foundation provided a collective seed grant of ₦500,000.
The drive behind this outreach was more than just economic; it was an intervention for public health and environmental preservation. For too long, families in Kere have relied on energy sources that come with a heavy cost.
Hands of Solace is actively working to dissuade the community from:
By making solar lamps and clean stoves accessible through local sellers, we are proving that clean energy isn’t just a “city luxury”—it is a community necessity.
The results of this empowerment have been immediate and heartening. Today, the three beneficiary women are not just business owners; they are community leaders in the green revolution. Reports indicate that their businesses are thriving, with local demand for solar solutions steadily increasing as residents realize the cost-savings and health benefits of switching from fossil fuels to the sun.
”To see these women doing so well in the solar business is a testament to the fact that when you empower a woman, you power a community,” said a representative from Hands of Solace. “We aren’t just selling lamps; we are selling a cleaner, quieter, and safer way of life.”
The success at Kere Community serves as a blueprint for our future environmental initiatives. The Hands of Solace Foundation remains committed to finding innovative ways to protect our environment while elevating the lives of the people who live within it.
We invite you to follow our progress and support our mission as we look to expand this clean energy model to more communities across the region.
